Many of today's political books are long on invective and short on scholarship. The Conservatives: Ideas and Personalities Throughout American History by Patrick Allitt, which discusses conservative thought from the American Revolution to the end of the 20th century, is not such a book. Reviewers have called it "a marvelous book that will be enlightening to both conservatives and liberals and is the rare university press book that is a page-turner, readable while also scholarly." Check it out!
