Booked 4 Murder

Four local authors (Lois Greiman, C. Hyytinen, Michael Allan Mallory and Marilyn Victor) present Criminal Minds: Twisting up a Mystery Plot. They will discuss how to get your work noticed and published and give "practical advice on what it takes to make it in today's crowded mystery market." The free program, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be this Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 am in the library's Foot Room. Refreshments will be served!

The title of New York Times health columnist Jane Brody's new book says it all: Jane Brody's guide to the great beyond : a practical primer to help you and your loved ones prepare medically, legally, and emotionally for the end of life. Reviewers call the book "[a]n instructive, inspiring and reassuring work full of compassion and humor (along with several cartoons from various New Yorker illustrators), [that] belongs on every family's bookshelf."

Stop by and sign up to be an Explorer (preschool through grade 2 in the fall of 2009) or an Investigator (grades 3-6 in the fall of 2009)! Any library patron with an email address can choose to have the library send email reminders several days before items are due. No more worrying about when the books are due! This service has proved extremely popular - give it a try!

Alice Munro

The Man Booker International Prize, worth £60,000 to the winner, is awarded once every two years to "a living author for a body of work that has contributed to an achievement in fiction on the world stage." Canadian author Alice Munro is the third winner ofthe contest, after Ismail Kadaré in 2005 and Chinua Achebe in 2007.
