Mystery in the jungle

New Yorker writer David Grann set out to solve "the greatest exploration mystery of the twentieth century": what happened to British explorer Percy Fawcett. In 1925 Fawcett ventured into the Amazon to find an ancient civilization. For centuries Europeans believed the world's largest jungle concealed the glittering El Dorado. Captivating the imagination of millions, Fawcett embarked with his 21-year-old son, determined to prove that this ancient civilization--which he dubbed "Z"--existed. Then he and his expedition vanished. Check out Grann's book, The Lost City of Z, to find out the rest of the story!

A Reliable Wife, the first novel by author Robert Goolrick is winning rave reviews from critics. From the publisher; "Rural Wisconsin, 1909. In the bitter cold, Ralph Truitt, a successful businessman, stands alone on a train platform waiting for the woman who answered his newspaper advertisement for "a reliable wife." But when Catherine Land steps off the train from Chicago, she's not the "simple, honest woman" that Ralph is expecting. She is both complex and devious, haunted by a terrible past and motivated by greed. Her plan is simple: she will win this man's devotion, and then, ever so slowly, she will poison him and leave Wisconsin a wealthy widow. What she has not counted on, though, is that Truitt — a passionate man with his own dark secrets —has plans of his own for his new wife. Isolated on a remote estate and imprisoned by relentless snow, the story of Ralph and Catherine unfolds in unimaginable ways."

Tennis, anyone?

Now that spring is kinda sorta here, it's time for tennis! A great way to start off the season is by looking over the new book, Tennis in the Northland: A History of Boys High School Tennis in Minnesota (1929-2003). Once you're done with that, it should actually be warm enough to get out and play (and we can help there, too)!
